Pine tops Varnado

Pine’s Raiders defeated Varnado, 57-55, in a District 9-2A game that was held on Jan. 28 on the road.

P.J. Foster led Pine with 14 points that included a 3-pointer.

Adrianuen Johnson posted 12 points. He made nine of his 12 free throws and made a 3-pointer.

D.J. Garrett recorded nine points.

Luke Spears tallied eight.

Preston Stogner recorded six.

Ahvon Johnson had three.

Zachary Thomas and Chris Dollerson both posted two.

Varnado’s Quanta Peters scored a game-high 23 points. Peters also dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds.

C.J. Jackson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Pine played again on Monday and Tuesday and were defeated in both games that were on the road.

Monday’s game was a 91-65 loss to Denham Springs in a non-district contest.

Pine had 11 players put up points.

Garrett led Pine with 13 points that included a 3-pointer.

Kendall Fountain posted 12 and he made a 3-pointer.

Foster tallied eight and he made two 3-pointers.

Spears, Stogner and Clint Miley all recorded six.

Johnson had four.

Isaac Barber and Cameron Brown both posted three. Brown made a 3-pointer.

Thomas and Blaise Seal both tallied two.

The next day, Pine was defeated by St. Helena College and Career Academy, 58-44, in district action.

Spears posted 15 points to lead Pine that included a 3-pointer.

Thomas recorded 10.

Garrett tallied nine that included a 3-pointer. Garrett was also good on all six of his free throws.

Foster and Stogner both had four.

Johnson posted two.

Varnado played on Tuesday and was defeated by Amite, 67-51, in a league contest.

Dameon Roberts posted 16 points to lead Varnado and he grabbed eight rebounds.

Peters tallied eight points, four steals and five assists.

Jackson recorded eight points and eight boards.

Pine’s next game will be on Feb. 4 against Independence at home in district play.

Varnado will play again on Feb. 4 in a road league game against St. Helena College and Career Academy at home.
