Lady Raiders win against Varnado in game held Jan. 28

Pine’s Lady Raiders won their game against Varnado, 63-30, in a road contest held Jan. 28 on the road in District 9-2A play.

Dillon Sumrall posted a game-high 18 points.

Alyssa Phelps tallied 13 points that included a 3-pointer.

Hailey Martin recorded 11 points and she made a 3-pointer.

Diamond Dawson posted six.

Addyson Phelps and Ana Kate Thomas both had four.

Emma Lyons recorded three.

Lily Crain and Samone Daniels both had two.

Jalisia Jackson scored 11 points to lead Varnado.

Myeasha Peters tallied 10.

Jakyra Daggs had four.

Janayia Harry and Tyriah Daggs both posted two.

Kasia McGowan had one.

Pine played again on Tuesday and was defeated by St. Helena College and Career Academy, 51-44, in league play on the road.

Martin posted 14 to lead Pine.

Sumrall tallied eight.

Alyssa Phelps recorded seven that included a 3-pointer.

Dawson, Lyons and Madison Morgan all recorded four.

Addyson Phelps had three.

Varnado played at home again on Tuesday and Wednesday and split the games.

On Tuesday, the Lady Cats were defeated by 2020-21 state semifinalist Amite, 88-7, in district play.

Varnado rebounded from the loss on Wednesday with a 58-16 victory over Lusher Charter in non-district play.

Myeshawn Fox scored 15 points to lead Varnado.

Daggs posted 14.

Peters recorded 11.

Jackson tallied six.

Naya Bell, Kasia McGowan, Janayia Harry and Tyriah Davis all had two.

“We suffered a huge loss the night before to Amite, but as a team we were able to pick ourselves up, regain our confidence, and run our offensive plays, along with executing our defense,” Varnado coach Garnet Fornea said.

Pine’s next game will be on Feb. 4 against Independence at home in a league contest.

Varnado will play again on Feb. 4 against St. Helena College and Career Academy at home in district play.
