Coastal Carolina’s Jefferson, Texas State’s Wilson take home Sun Belt Women’s Track/Field Weekly Honors

Record-setting performances by Coastal Carolina’s Melissa Jefferson and Texas State’s Alyssa Wilson have earned the duo Sun Belt Conference Women’s Track & Field Weekly Honors.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Melissa Jefferson, Coastal Carolina

Chanticleers’ junior sprinter Melissa Jefferson garnered Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. She raced to a runner-up finish in the 200 meters with a school-record time of 23.34 at the Carolina Challenge this past weekend. Her 200m time ranks fifth nationally, while she is also 10th nationally in the 60-meter dash with a school-record time of 7.29. Both times are the fastest in the Sun Belt this year. Jefferson also ran the third leg of the 4×400-meter relay team that finished fifth with a time of 3:45.48. That mark was the fourth-best in Coastal Carolina school history.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Alyssa Wilson, Texas State

Bobcats’ graduate student thrower Alyssa Wilson, competing in just her second event for Texas State after transferring from UCLA, set a new Texas State record with a 22.26m/73-0.50 throw in the women’s weight throw during the FasTrack Challenge in Houston, Texas. Her record-breaking throw came on the fifth of six attempts during the event’s finals, which she won by 0.94m. The 22.26m/73-0.50 throw was the third-longest of Wilson’s personal career.
