Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Joseph Vincent “J.V.” Giacone, 88, passed away Jan. 18, 2022, at his home in Bogalusa. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart was a beacon of light for all who knew him. He was an avid LSU fan and the entire family had to become fans or risk being disowned.

A natural athlete who loved participating in all sports, J.V. used his talents to coach and mentor many in the Bogalusa community. Golf became one of his favorite past times and even when he was unable to play any longer, he continued to enjoy the fellowship of his golfing buddies by riding along.

He was a phenomenal dancer who was often referred to as Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly all in one. The ladies would get in line to “cut a rug” with J.V. He was the hit of the party when he would dress up and perform as Elvis. These performances prompted one of his many nicknames over the years. Others were Mr. Smooth, Jam-up, Coach, and Senior.

As a veteran, J.V. served for four years in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Cuba, he takes credit for keeping America safe by preventing a southern invasion!

J.V. was a charismatic man who was loyal to his friends and family and would give you the shirt off his back. He had the unique gift of uplifting those around him with his kind words, his sense of humor and his infectious smile.

It is these endearing qualities that we will miss the most, but J.V. left us with a beautiful legacy, one of life lived with faith and love and goodness that is forever etched in the hearts of all who knew him.

J.V. is survived by his devoted girlfriend, Linda Wood. He was a proud father to Gina Giacone (Bill) Laird and Joseph (Rebecca) Giacone, Jr. and the greatest “Paw Paw” ever to Brooke Laird (Braeden) Smith and Sarah Giacone. J.V. is also survived by two sisters, Marie (Durwood) Alford and Elizabeth (Ralph) Richardson, who lovingly teased him about being their favorite (albeit ONLY) brother.

J.V. was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Clara Giacone; and his sister, Rosemary (C.J.) Brooks.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Annunciation Catholic Church, 517 Ave. B in Bogalusa, from 9 a.m. until time for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the V.A. Plot at Ponemah Cemetery. A Celebration of his Life will take place after the services at the Bogalusa Country Club, where he was a long-time member.
