The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team combined to win five events Friday during the Lions’ indoor season opener at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational in Carl Maddox Field House.

Tommy Nedow won the weight throw and shot put events while Slavko Stevic claimed the high jump title for the SLU men. Noah Kiprotich won the men’s 800m race while Katrine Olsen won the women’s weight throw.

Nedow, a sophomore, set a personal best mark of 54 feet, 4.5 inches (16.57m) to claim Friday’s weight throw championship for his career weight throw title. Out of Brockville, Canada, Nedow also clinched Friday’s shot put title throwing 53-4.25 (16.26m).

Stevic, out of Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, started with a nice showing as well jumping 6-8.75 (2.05m) on his way to winning the LSU Purple Tiger high jump event for the second straight year. Stevic, the 2020 Southland Indoor Champion and 2021 Southland Indoor runner-up, added to his resume with his fifth career indoor championship.

In the men’s 800m, Kiprotich ran a 1:58.20 to win the event Friday to add to the Lions’ solid season debut.

On the women’s side, Olsen won the weight throw (49-3.75, 15.03m) and also had a good showing in the high jump. In her Lady Lions’ debut, the Denmark native jumped 5-6 (1.68m).
