A new director of the Washington Parish Library system was sworn in on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Bogalusa Branch Library.

Sonnet Ireland brings to the system her extensive education and experience in a lengthy and distinguished career as a librarian.

Jim Adams, president of the Washington Parish Board of Control, expressed his confidence in the new director.

“Mrs. Ireland will bring to the library system solid and innovative leadership to ensure that the library continues to be an invaluable asset to all the communities of Washington Parish,” Adams said.

Ireland will take the reins of directorship on Monday, Jan. 31, at her new office in the library headquarters housed in the Franklinton Branch Library.
