Franklinton’s Lady Demons soccer was defeated by St. Thomas Aquinas 5-1 on the road Friday. Keeper Susan Bradford was 19/24 (79 percent) on saves. Madysen Varnado scored Franklinton’s lone goal of the night, with an assist from Kaylee Ard.

“I’m proud of our effort, but we have to be more skilled at controlling the ball,” Franklinton coach Matthew Hughes said. “Our possessions aren’t very efficient right now due to our lack of control. It doesn’t matter what we do schematically if we can’t trap and pass the ball quickly and accurately. Defensively, we have to continue to develop fundamentally. Our defensive angles and technique on the ball have to improve.”

“Our girls play so hard. We’re just not always getting the returns out of our effort that we would like. That will come. Our girls have a genuine desire to improve and compete. Coach Barber and I enjoy coaching them,” Hughes said.

On Monday, Franklinton was defeated by Riverdale, 7-1.

Madysen Varnado posted a goal.

Franklinton’s record is now 2-7 on the season.

Franklinton’s next game will be on Thursday against Bonnabel at home.
