Arkansas State’s Omier earns 3rd Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of Week nod

With back-to-back double-doubles on 72.4 percent shooting, Arkansas State’s Norchad Omier secures his third Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week nod of the 2021-22 campaign.

Red Wolves freshman forward Norchad Omier averaged 26.5 points and 14.0 rebounds, while shooting a combined 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the field to earn his third Player of the Week nod of the 2021-22 season. The Bluefields, Nicaragua, native scored 29 points and grabbed 17 boards in an 83-77 loss at Louisiana on Thursday, before dropping 24 points and snagging 11 rebounds in a 90-83 victory at ULM on Saturday. Omier knocked down 84.6 percent (11-of-13) of his free throws and added seven blocks and two steals on the week. Behind Omier, Arkansas State (2-1) is 1-of-4 Sun Belt programs with a winning record in conference play, joining Louisiana (3-0), Troy (3-1) and UTA (3-1).
