On Tuesday, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office received a warrant from the U.S. Marine Corps for military desertion, according to WPSO Chief Criminal Deputy Mike Haley.

Haley said that James R. Wallace, 23, who was residing on Louisiana Highway 1070 in Washington Parish, was taken into custody without resistance at his residence by two WPSO deputies. Wallace was transported to the Washington Parish Jail, to be held as a fugitive from the U.S. Marine Corps.

“It is unusual to receive a warrant for military desertion,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “We don’t know the circumstances behind his desertion, but we are glad to assist the Marines in this matter.”
