The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team continues an eight-game road trip Tuesday, Dec. 14 as they take on Louisville out of the ACC in the KFC Yum Center at 5 p.m. CT.

The Lions (4-6) are coming off a tough loss to Southern (5-6) Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. SLU had a 12-point first half lead but couldn’t hang on as they fell, 72-66, to the Jaguars. The Lions hung tough with the game tied at 61-61 with under four minutes to go, but the Jaguars connected on nine free throws in the final minutes to seal the win. Despite the loss, Southeastern forced the Jaguars into 20 turnovers leading to 24 points off turnovers.

Junior Gus Okafor leads the Lions in scoring at 13.7 ppg. Out of Baltimore, Maryland, Okafor has been hampered slightly the last two games by an ankle he suffered in the first half of the Lions’ 72-68 win over Troy Dec. 5th. Prior to the injury, Okafor was averaging 19.7 points and 7.0 rebounds in the Lions’ previous six games.

Jalyn Hinton continues to led the Southland in blocked shots with 21. The Florida Southern transfer is also top 10 in the league in both scoring (12.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg).

Louisville (6-3, 1-0 ACC) lost at home to DePaul (8-1) Friday night, 62-55. U of L had a 29-26 lead at half but shot just 11-for-38 (28 percent) in the second half as DePaul outscored the Cardinals 36-26 in the final 20 minutes.

The Cardinals are 3-2 at home this season entering Tuesday’s matchup with SLU but have wins over Maryland, Mississippi State and North Carolina State. U of L is led by Noah Locke and Malik Williams in scoring with both averaging just over 10 points per game. Williams (6-11, 250) also leads the team in rebounding averaging 9.6 boards, third in the ACC.

Tuesday marks the first ever meeting between Southeastern and Louisville and just the sixth time SLU has played an ACC opponent in program history (0-5). The last matchup against an ACC foe was during the 2017-18 season when the Lions lost to Notre Dame on the road.
