Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball player Jolie Hidalgo has earned Southland Conference All-Academic honors, the league office announced Wednesday.

A junior from Opelousas, Louisiana, Hidalgo maintains a 3.81 GPA while majoring in biology as well as playing a pivotal role on both the SLU indoor and beach volleyball squads.

Hidalgo finished the 2021 indoor season with 70.0 total points (0.75 pts/set) on 56 kills (0.60 k/set), six service aces (0.06 sa/set) and 15.0 total blocks (0.16 b/set). She also accumulated 157 digs (1.69 d/set) and 14 assists (0.15 a/set).

The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition in order to qualify for the all-academic squad.

First Team All-Conference student-athletes who meet all-academic nomination criteria are automatically named First Team All-Academic honorees.

The Student-Athlete of the Year award is selected by the Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the eight member universities. The Southland Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented to the one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
