UTA junior forward Starr Jacobs led her team to a pair of wins last week, which included an upset of No. 13/17 USF and a victory against 2021 WNIT Champion Rice. She is this week’s Sun Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Jacobs, a Dallas, Texas, native and a transfer from Temple College, averaged 15.0 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game this past week. She shot 61 percent (14-of-23) from the field during the two-game stretch.

In the win against No. 13/17 USF, Jacobs scored 10 points and brought down nine rebounds. More impressively, she did so while matched up against one of the nation’s rebounders in Bethy Mununga, who entered the game ranked sixth nationally with 12.1 boards per game. The victory marked UTA’s first-ever against a ranked opponent.

Against Rice, which captured the 2021 WNIT Championship with a 23-4 overall record, Jacobs scored 20 points, brought down eight rebounds and added three steals.

On the season, Jacobs ranks among the nation’s leaders in several statistical categories. She is seventh nationally in field goals made (71), 17th in field-goal percentage (60.7) and 23rd in steals per game (3.0). Jacobs is second among all Sun Belt conference players in scoring at 19.8 points per game.
