On Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, Jerri LaJoyce (Dillon) Brumfield entered into eternal rest surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Clarity/ Crossing Hospice in Baton Rouge.

Jerri, who is affectionately known as “Joyce,” was born on Sept. 28, 1957, to the late Mr. James H. and Mrs. Willie Lee Dillon.

In this life she wore many hats. She devoted herself to church service from her youth. She held a variety of leadership roles at her childhood church, Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she was a servant-leader at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Osyka, Miss. Even when she wasn’t serving in a formal role, Jerri made worshipping God and uplifting His kingdom a priority as a member of the Community Church — formerly Faith Bible Church — Covington campus. She was also an honorary member of Chimney Rock Church in Crowley, Texas.

Throughout her life, Jerri also maintained strong connections with her community by administering the Summer Feeding program at Hayes Creek M.B.C. for several years and teaching young learners at the Vernon Headstart Program. Later in life, she also proudly served as a financial advisor for the campaigns of Mr. Olander Smith and Rev. Esco Burton.

In her professional life, she managed H & R Block in Bogalusa, before establishing her own business, Solid Financial Services in 2007. Jerri’s mission extended far beyond being her clients’ “tax lady;” she treated each one like family.

Even with the outpouring of love she gave to her churches, community, and clients, she still maintained abundant room in her heart for her beloved children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jerri was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
