Lady Demons soccer defeated Plaquemine Tuesday night 2-1.

Mercedes Lopez and Kaylee Ard each scored one goal in the victory. Keylin Lopez, Brooklyn Pedersen, and Madysen Varnado had outstanding performances in midfield. Susan Bradford turned in an exceptional performance on Monday night in a loss versus Hammond with 15 saves. She made several key stops in the victory versus Plaquemine as well.

“I am so proud of these young ladies, and I am excited to see their hard work pay off with a victory,” Franklinton coach Matthew Hughes said. “They work extremely hard and play with tremendous effort.”

“We were able to string together a lot of quality attacks. We put a lot of pressure on their defense and were able to play most of the game on their half of the field. Because of that, we created a ton of scoring opportunities for ourselves. That being said, we have to do a better job of converting those opportunities into goals. Some of that will come with experience, but we also can’t lose sight of the fact that we must improve our spacing and awareness. If we can learn to space ourselves properly and get our eyes up to find those passing lanes, our offensive production will improve tremendously.”

“We are starting to develop some chemistry. That is a very positive sign. Our defenders are improving, mostly due to the fact that we are beginning to develop an understanding of the game. Our keeper (Susan Bradford) is outstanding, so if we can give her a little bit of support on the back end, we will be tough to score on,” Hughes said.

On Thursday, Franklinton was defeated by Covington, 8-1.

Varnado tallied Franklinton’s goal on a penalty kick.

The Lady Demons are now 1-3 on the season, with the next game taking place against  International High School of New Orleans on Saturday, Dec. 4 to finish out the week.
