Sun Belt alumni score 5 touchdowns in NFL Week 12, Arkansas State’s McKissic scores twice on Monday Night Football

Sun Belt alumni scored five touchdowns in Week 12 of the National Football League (NFL) season, including a two-touchdown day for Arkansas State product and Washington Football Team running back J.D. McKissic.

McKissic compiled 30 yards on seven rushes and 26 yards on five receptions, while fellow running back Elijah Mitchell of the San Francisco 49ers via Louisiana added a combined 168 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia Southern alumnus and Buffalo Bills running back Matt Breida (55 Yards, 1 Touchdown) and South Alabama alum and Seattle Seahawks tight end Gerald Everett (37 Yards, 1 Touchdown) also struck paydirt in Week 12.

Defensively, 11 Sun Belt alumni accumulated 36 tackles, four tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defended. New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis out of Arkansas State paced the group with 10 tackles and a tackle for loss. Though Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Mario Addison added four tackles, two tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and a sack in the same Thanksgiving Day matchup.

Appalachian State alumnus Ronald Blair of the New York Jets had a coming out party with six tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit and a sack in just his third NFL appearance. Defensive back Shemar Jean-Charles (App State, Green Bay Packers), defensive lineman Tarron Jackson (Coastal Carolina, Philadelphia Eagles), defensive back Josh Norman (Coastal Carolina, San Francisco 49ers), defensive lineman Justin Hamilton (Louisiana, Dallas Cowboys), defensive lineman Christian Ringo (Louisiana, New Orleans Saints), safety Tracy Walker III (Louisiana, Detroit Lions), linebacker David Mayo (Texas State, Washington Football Team) and defensive lineman Steve McLendon (Troy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) also added to the defensive stat line.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley out of Louisiana registered 18 yards on a pair of receptions and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Albert Wilson out of Georgia State accumulated 17 yards on five catches.

On special teams, former App State punter Sam Martin tallied 126 yards on three punts for the Denver Broncos. Former Georgia Southern kickers Tyler Bass of the Buffalo Bill and Younghoe Koo of the Atlanta Falcons went a perfect 1-for-1 on field goal attempts and 7-for-7 on extra points.

Colby Gossett (App State, Atlanta Falcons), Kendall Lamm (App State, Tennessee Titans), Kindle Vildor (Georgia Southern, Chicago Bears), Penny Hart (Georgia State, Seattle Seahawks), Chandon Sullivan (Georgia State, Green Bay Packers), Robert Hunt (Louisiana, Miami Dolphins), Josh Johnson (ULM, Seattle Seahawks), Aaron Brewer (Texas State, Tennessee Titans) and Ty Nsekhe (Texas State, Dallas Cowboys) also saw game action in Week 12.

Forty-nine Sun Belt alumni—representing all 10 football programs—earned NFL roster spots entering the 2021 season, with 32 on active rosters, 11 on 16-man practice squads and four on injured reserve lists during Week 12. A season-high 29 Sun Belt alumni saw the field.
