South Alabama’s Manning Jr. claims Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week nod

South Alabama’s Charles Manning Jr. claims the Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week nod after propelling the Jaguars to the Las Vegas Classic championship and being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Jaguars senior guard Charles Manning Jr. averaged 21.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in a three-game week for South Alabama, including 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists at the Las Vegas Classic. The Riverhead, N.Y., native scored 18 points in a blowout victory over William Carey, then added 21 in the tournament opener against San Diego. Manning Jr. dropped a career-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting and pulled down a career-best seven rebounds in the championship game against Hawaii en route to Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
