Louisiana’s Ringo makes pivotal play, season-high 29 Sun Belt alumni see game action in week 11

Sun Belt alumni on the defensive side of the ball stole the show in Week 11 of the National Football League (NFL) season, with newly-resigned New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Christian Ringo making a pivotal strip and fumble recovery deep in Eagles territory to set up a Saints touchdown.

The Louisiana product registered five tackles, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in his return to the Saints lineup, while Sun Belt defenders combined for 37 tackles, four tackles for loss, two passes defended, two sacks, two quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.

Fellow Louisiana alumnus and Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker III paced all Sun Belt alumni with nine tackles and a tackle for loss, while defensive lineman Ronald Blair (App State, New York Jets), linebacker Demario Davis (Arkansas State, New Orleans Saints), defensive back Josh Norman (Coastal Carolina, San Francisco 49ers), defensive lineman Raymond Johnson III (Georgia Southern, New York Giants), running back Jerick McKinnon (Georgia Southern, Kansas City Chiefs), defensive back Kindle Vildor (Georgia Southern, Chicago Bears), wide receiver Penny Hart (Georgia State, Seattle Seahawks), defensive back Chandon Sullivan (Georgia State, Green Bay Packers), linebacker David Mayo (Texas State, Washington Football Team), defensive lineman Mario Addison (Troy, Buffalo Bills) and defensive lineman Steve McLendon (Troy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) also contributed to the defensive stat sheet.

In his first appearance of the 2021 season, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley out of Louisiana tallied 46 yards on a pair of receptions. South Alabama alumnus and Seattle Seahawks tight end Gerald Everett (3 Receptions, 37 Yards) and Georgia State product and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Albert Wilson (3 Receptions, 18 Yards) also had multiple receptions on the week.

Contributing through the air and on the ground, Buffalo Bills running back Matt Breida out of Georgia Southern accumulated 67 yards (51 rushing, 16 receiving) and Washington Football Team running back J.D. McKissic out of Arkansas State added 50 yards (46 rushing, 4 receiving).

Former Georgia Southern kickers Tyler Bass of the Buffalo Bills and Younghoe Koo of the Atlanta Falcons were 0-for-3 on field goal attempts, though Bass connected on his one extra point try.

Colby Gossett (App State, Atlanta Falcons), Shemar Jean-Charles (App State, Green Bay Packers), Kendall Lamm (App State, Tennessee Titans), Forrest Merrill (Arkansas State, Los Angeles Chargers), Tarron Jackson (Coastal Carolina, Philadelphia Eagles), Justin Hamilton (Louisiana, Dallas Cowboys), Robert Hunt (Louisiana, Miami Dolphins), Aaron Brewer (Texas State, Tennessee Titans) and Ty Nsekhe (Texas State, Dallas Cowboys) also saw the field in Week 11.

Forty-nine Sun Belt alumni—representing all 10 football programs—earned NFL roster spots entering the 2021 season, with 32 on active rosters, 12 on 16-man practice squads and four on injured reserve lists during Week 11. A season-high 29 Sun Belt alumni saw game action.
