Southeastern Louisiana University’s Bradley Makuvire wrapped up a spectacular season as he competed in a field of 250 at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship men’s 10k race Saturday morning at Apalachee Park in Tallahassee.

Makuvire, a sophomore, finished 186th in Saturday’s race but had quite a run in 2021. The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native won four out of six races he competed in this season, including wins at LSU, Nicholls, Mississippi College and the Southland Conference Championships.

Makuvire also won the Southland Cross Country Male Athlete of the Year, the Southland Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week twice and received national honors as the USTFCCCA Male National Athlete of the Week Oct. 11.

“He had a great season” said SLU cross country head coach Corey Mistretta. “It obviously didn’t end like we hoped, but we will be back.”

For his SLU career, Makuvire has finished in the Top 10 five times in eight races, including a 10th place finish in last year’s Southland Conference Championship 10k race.

BYU’s Connor Mantz won the individual national title while Northern Arizona claimed the team title with five runners finishing in the Top 35.

Makuvire will begin preparation for SLU’s indoor track season which is slated to begin in January. No official schedule has been released as of Saturday morning.
