Mr. Tillmon Smith, a resident of Bogalusa, passed at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington on Nov. 13, 2021, at the age of 84.

Mr. Tillmon was born to Leon and Gladys Smith on Dec. 21, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Bogalusa. He was married to the love of his life, Cynthia Margaret Cole Smith, for 60 years. Tillmon was a Veteran in the U.S. Army for three active years and the inactive reserves for five years. After serving in the service, Tillmon began working at the Bogalusa Container Division of Gaylord. He worked there for 45 years until his retirement. Tillmon and Cynthia enjoyed playing sports, including jungle ball, softball, and baseball. He also bowled on the Bogalusa bowling leagues. The couple also enjoyed traveling to many places, especially London, England, where Cynthia and her family were born before coming to the United States in 1947. After years of marriage, Tillmon’s mother-in-law Daisy Nora Cole, whom he adored, lived with them for 25 years in their home.

Tillmon is survived by his wife, Cynthia Smith; sisters-in-law, Iris Morris and Ivy Spencer; brother-in-law, Maurice (Mayvon) Cole; nephews, Cliff (Linda) Morris, Colin (Virginia) Spencer, Lawrence Spencer, Donald Seal, Glenn (Gina) Cole, John Cole and Robert (Laura) Martin; nieces, Rebecca Smallridge and Maureen (Tim) Magee; and two special nephews to whom Tillmon loved for them to play and sing for him, Derek (Baxter) Morris and Dusty Morris. He is also survived by special neighbors and close friends, Jeffery Remington, Willie Wheat, and Ronnie and Crystal Creel.

Mr. Tillmon was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Gladys Smith; his sisters, Bonnie (Claude) Thigpen and Marie (Vance) Southern; his brothers, Edward (Bernice) Smith and Doyle Glynn Smith; brothers-in-law, Lee Ray Morris and Cary Spencer; and a sister-in-law, Carol Cole.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. until time for the services at 2 p.m. Graveside rites performed by Magic City American Legion Post #24. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery V.A. Plot. Pallbearers will be Cliff Morris, Lawrence Spencer, Ronnie Creel, Jeff Remington, Colin Spencer and Jay Remington.

Tillmon was a naturalist all his life. He enjoyed sharing his large backyard with many dogs and cats over the years. Many times he would stop their car to help a turtle cross the road.
