Southeastern Louisiana’s Bradley Makuvire qualified for the national championship as he finished 11th at the 2021 NCAA Division I South Central Regional 10K Cross Country Race Friday morning at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.

“I cannot be prouder of Bradley,” said SLU cross country head coach Corey Mistretta. “His commitment to the program and his training is a model for those who want to be successful. He deserves this honor and is incredibly excited about competing against the best in the country next week.”

Makuvire adds to his near impeccable resume in 2021 as the Lions’ sophomore finished near the top 10 in a field of 187 runners.

The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native had won all four races he had competed in this year prior to Friday. The 2021 Southland Conference Champion won races at LSU, Nicholls and Watson Invitational in Clinton, Mississippi.

“It was really fun racing against such good competition today,” said Makuvire. “Next week at Nationals will be even tougher so I have to get some good rest this week. I am looking forward to racing against the best in the country, it will definitely be a guts race.”

Makuvire will go on to compete in the NCAA Division I National Championship 10k race Saturday, Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla. hosted by Florida State.
