SLU Wraps Up Regular Season at Home

The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team wraps up the 2021 regular season Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. Southland Conference match against Northwestern State in the University Center.

SLU (8-17, 6-7 SLC) currently sits in a tie for fourth place in the conference standings, 1.5 games ahead of Northwestern State (10-17, 4-8 SLC).

The Lady Lions are looking to break a four-game skid heading into the upcoming Southland Tournament.

SLU freshman Cicily Hidalgo, an outside hitter from Opelousas, Louisiana, leads the Southland Conference in total kills (387), kills per set (3.83), points (420), points per set (4.16), total attacks (1145) and attacks per set (11.34). Hidalgo is currently ninth in the Lady Lions’ single-season Top 10 for total attacks and tied for 10th in total kills.

Other key personnel driving the SLU offensive attack are Karlee Wilkerson (2.44 k/set), a senior from Springfield, Louisiana, Addie Vidrine (1.91 k/set), a junior from Lafayette, Louisiana, and middle blocker Crispin Adams (1.77 k/set), a preseason All-Conference selection from Brookshire, Texas.

Gracie Duplechein (7.00 a/set), a freshman from St. Amant, Louisiana, currently ranks third in the conference in total assists (707). She splits time with junior Ariana Hebert (3.37 a/set).

Hannah Brewer, a freshman from Benton, Arkansas, ranks ninth in blocks (0.92 b/set) while Ansley Tullis, a sophomore libero from Slidell, Louisiana, leads the team with 4.10 digs per set and ranks sixth in the Southland.

Northwestern State has dropped three of its last four matches.

The Lady Demons are led by Symone Wesley (2.73 k/set), Brenna Burrell (2.73 k/set), Piper Boydstun (8.59 a/set) and Haley Hoang (4.52 d/set). Boydstun ranks third in the Southland in assists and Hoang is fourth in digs. Burrell and Wesley are tied seventh in kills.

UP NEXT

The 2021 Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament runs Nov. 18-21 in Houston, Texas at Sharp Gym on the campus of HBU. All eight Southland teams will participate in the single-elimination event.
