Gumbo and gift cards for BHS team
The Bogalusa Lumberjacks football team will be honored on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Bogalusa High School field house. The players will be served gumbo, courtesy of the Morris Family Foundation (represented by Ms. Hannah Maria Morris), and will be presented gift ards by various Bogalusa sponsors. Organizers of this event also extend a heartfelt thanks to all parents/designees who continue to set an example in the youth’s lives to move positively forward. Once again, “our Jacks,” under the guidance of coach Cyril Crutchfield, are greatly appreciated and congratulations is extended on the great success of homecoming and the remaining 2021 season.

Washington Parish Republican Women
The Washington Parish Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Maria’s Restaurant on Austin Street. The business meeting will begin at noon with Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry as the guest speaker. Members will continue to social distance.

Franklinton High School veterans’ breakfast
The Franklinton High School Student Council and Principal Shane Smith are pleased to announce its annual breakfast and patriotic program honoring veterans and active military personnel. The breakfast will be held in the FHS library, with the program following in the school gymnasium. Breakfast will be served on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7 a.m., and the program will immediately follow. All area veterans and active military are invited to attend, as well as spouses and members of the local VFW and American Legion.

Bowling Green School veterans’ events
Bowling Green School will mark Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11. There will be lunch at noon at the sports complex, and the program will begin at 1 p.m. in the main gymnasium.

Highway dedication ceremony
The public is invited to attend the Lance Corporal Larry Wells Memorial Highway dedication ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Hermon School gymnasium (see flier at bottom right). Louisiana Highway 38 from Clifton to the Tangipahoa Parish line will be dedicated as the “LCpl Larry Wells Memorial Highway” on that day. Wells was a Mt. Hermon School graduate who gave his life for his country on Aug. 6, 2004, while fighting in Najaf, Iraq, with his fellow Marines. This memorial highway will be a way to continue honoring his memory.

Bogalusa lighted Christmas parade
The 22nd annual City of Bogalusa Lighted Christmas Parade committee is proud to present “Christmas in Bogalusa” on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m. No registration is necessary to participate in the parade. Line up will be at Columbia Street at First Bank. All parade participants should be in line, on float or in their vehicle by 4:30 p.m. Disbanding will be at the old Bogalusa High School parking lot. No four-wheelers will be allowed, although side-by-sides and golf carts are allowed. Drivers must keep up with the parade. Drivers should maintain a two-car length distance between their vehicle and the next parade entry. Do not stop during the parade. There will be no undecorated floats or vehicles allowed in the parade. This does not apply to vehicles pulling floats or trailers, etc. Please try to decorate all vehicles, because this parade is about showing the community’s Christmas spirit. All music must be Christmas-themed.

Christmas on Austin Street
Bogalusa Parks Recreation and Culture Commission is requesting community partners, churches, schools and other organizations to collaborate for the third annual “Christmas on Austin Street” on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will be free activities, festival-style games and booths. American Legion bingo temporarily suspended
There will not be bingo at the American Legion until further notice. FEMA will be using the facility to assist the community with any damages sustained during the hurricane.

Washington Parish alert system
Stay alert by enrolling in the Washington Parish Emergency Notification System. This alert system provides rapid notification of emergencies, critical events and urgent situations. Bogalusa Help Center
It’s easy to smile when someone cares, and Bogalusa Help Center, our local food bank, cares. It is now a drive-through operation, located at 350 Martin Luther King Drive in Bogalusa. It is open from 8 a.m. until noon every Wednesday (except the fifth Wednesday of the month) providing food to those in need in our community. Since partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank/USDA, and along with generous donations from our community, BHC now distributes 35-40 pounds of food each month to over 400 families. These distributions include canned goods, meat, dry beans, peanut butter, fresh fruit and vegetables, etc. New clients can apply each week. They must provide: Name of head of the household; driver’s license or ID; address; number of persons in the household and ages; and SNAP or SSI printout, or proof of income of all in the household.
