After helping the No. 8 Southeastern Louisiana University football team to a 23-20 victory over McNeese, Lion defensive end Garrett Crawford and punter Austin Dunlap were named Southland Conference Players of the Week in an announcement from the league office on Monday.

Crawford is the third Lion to earn conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades this fall, joining Ferlando Jordan (Sept. 7) and Alexis Ramos (Oct. 11). Dunlap claimed Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after previously winning the award on Sept. 13.

In the win over the Cowboys, Crawford finished with eight tackles and led SLU with 2.5 sacks. Through eight games, the Slidell, Louisiana native leads Southeastern with seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

Dunlap bombed a career-long 66-yard punt on the way to averaging a single-game school record 53.0 yards per punt in Saturday’s win. The Slidell, Louisiana native is averaging 45.6 yards per punt, which would be good for fifth in the FCS if the high-powered Lion offense allowed him to attempt enough punts to be listed in the national rankings.

Southeastern will close out its regular season road schedule on Saturday, traveling to No. 22 UIW for a 2 p.m. contest in San Antonio, Texas. With a win, the Lions will clinch at least a share of the Southland Conference championship. The game will be televised on ESPN3, while also being heard in the Hammond area on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.kajun107.net.
