SLU falls in straight sets

The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a Southland Conference match to Nicholls in straight sets, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23, at the University Center.
SLU (7-13, 5-3 SLC) falls back into third place in the conference standings with the loss to Nicholls (9-11, 2-6 SLC), one game behind HBU (15-7, 6-2 SLC).
Down by eight in the second set, 16-8, the Lady Lions scored 10 of the next 12 points to tie the score. Picking up three of the next five points game Southeastern the lead, 21-20, but the Colonels scored five of the final six to wrap up the set.
A similar rally midway through the final set was not enough to stave off Nicholls.
Cicily Hidalgo, the Southland kills leader, picked up her fourth consecutive double-double (11 kills, 13 digs) and 10th overall in 2021. Crispin Adams, Hannah Brewer, Kibi Huggins and Karlee Wilkerson contributed six kills each.
Gracie Duplechein dished out 21 assists for the Lady Lions and Ariana Hebert handed out another 12 to go along with a pair of service aces.
Calli Collins led SLU with 16 digs.
UP NEXT
SLU hosts UNO (1-15, 1-7 SLC) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the University Center. Admission is free to all home matches this season and fans are asked to enter the arena upstairs at Gate 3.
