Georgia Southern’s Wright, App State’s Jackson and Louisiana’s Smith capture Sun Belt weekly awards following conference wins.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Logan Wright, Georgia Southern
(RS Sr., RB – Jacksonville, Fla.)

Eagles senior running back Logan Wright rushed for a career-high 214 yards and two touchdowns in Georgia Southern’s 59-33 conference win over Arkansas State. The Jacksonville, Fla., native did his damage on just 10 attempts, averaging 21.4 yards per carry. Wright’s touchdown runs were 59-yard and 41-yard carries, as he contributed to a 503-yard effort on the ground for the Eagles. He became the first Georgia Southern student-athlete to run for over 200 yards since Matt Breida against Texas State on Oct. 29, 2015.

Football Defensive Player of the Week
D’Marco Jackson, App State
(Sr., LB – Spartanburg, S.C.)

Mountaineers senior linebacker D’Marco Jackson filled up the stat sheet in App State’s 45-16 win at Georgia State. The Spartanburg, S.C., product accumulated nine tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss, a sack, an interception, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry—all in the first three quarters. Jackson, who had seven tackles resulting in a Panther gain of two yards or less, and the App State defense held the opposition to less than 30 points for the 18th-straight game.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Chris Smith, Louisiana
(RS So., RS – Louisville, Miss.)

Ragin’ Cajuns redshirt sophomore running back and return specialist Chris Smith tallied 137 kickoff return yards in Louisiana’s 20-18 win at South Alabama. The Louisville, Miss., native recorded an 87-yard return on the opening kickoff, setting up his lone rushing touchdown on the game. Smith added 40 yards on the ground to register a game-high 177 all-purpose yards. He joins Ohio State’s De’Montre Tuggle as 1-of-2 players in the country to rush for 40 yards and tally more than 130 kickoff return yards in the same game.
