Ben’s Ford travels to Newton

Ben’s Ford Christian School will take to the road on Friday and will play against Newton County Academy in a District 2A2 contest.

Ben’s Ford Christian School comes into this week with a 1-5 overall record and 1-1 record in district.

“Newton’s probably the best team in our district right now,” Ben’s Ford Christian School coach Destin Pittman said. “They’re playing good football. They’ve got size up front. I just hope we can go play competitive football against them.”

Ben’s Ford’s game was canceled last week. The Eagles played two weeks ago and were defeated by Tensas, 36-19.

Against Tensas, Ein Knight passed for 169 yards and two touchdowns.

Gage Adams topped the receivers with five catches for 121 yards and a score. He also had 3.5 tackles on defense and intercepted a pass.

Alex Stogner caught a pass for 3 yards and a touchdown.

Jonah Holston made three catches for 48 yards. He also tallied 3.5 tackles, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.

Nate Descant had a catch for 11 yards.

Defensively, Brantley Dyess led the team in tackles with eight to go with a sack and three stops for a loss.

Martin Mizell posted 6.5 tackles.

James Blackwell recorded 5.5 tackles with a sack and two for a loss.

Jonah Williams made three tackles with one for a loss.

Newton begins the week with a 5-2 overall record and a 4-0 record in league play. Newton won its game over Kemper Academy last week, 52-14.

Newton is 5-1 since an opening week loss to Calhoun Academy, 16-14.
