Franklinton was victorious over Belle Chasse, 47-33, in Friday’s game at home.
The first half was an offense showcase as the teams combined for 47 points.
The Demons got on the board first when Zion Anders connected with Glen Mark on a 9-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good and Franklinton was up 6-0 at the 8:36 mark of the first quarter.
Belle Chasse went in front when Tyler Dickson ran in from the 4. Trey Furey was good on the extra point to make it 7-6 with 4:30 on the clock.
Franklinton was back on the board 2:27 later on a Kelly Daniels 17-yard run. Cole Colletti made the point after for a 13-7 lead.
It stayed that way until the second period. Belle Chasse’s Kyron Ramesy tallied from the 9. The extra point was deflected, keeping the game tied at 13-13 with 10:04 to go in the first half.
Franklinton got the lead back seconds later when Nelson took the ensuing kickoff 79 yards for the score. Colletti made the extra point, giving the Demons a 20-13 lead.
But Belle Chasse retied the game with Dickson hitting Trace Williams on a 19-yard pass on fouth-and-10. Furey connected on the extra point to even the game at 20-20.
After that, the game belonged to the Demons.
Franklinton went back in front with 52 seconds to go when Anders ran it in from the 6. Colletti hit the extra point.
Franklinton nearly scored on the final play of the half when Senqualon Conerly intercepted a pass and nearly brought it back for a touchdown.
It was 27-20 at halftime.
“Offense I thought was real consistent in the first half. We had one drive that we didn’t score on offensively and that’s because we had some mistakes that hurt us, but other than that, I thought we played really well,” Franklinton coach Jonathan Barber said. “Defensively, we struggled, but we had a big play to end the first half and that kind of gave us some momentum going into the second (half), and then obviously, Kendarious (Brumfield) made a huge play there towards the end of the game to kind of seal the deal (interception return for a touchdown) for us and scored the touchdown. I’m so happy for him. He struggled at times tonight, but man, when the pressure was on and we needed a play, he made a heck of a play and I’m proud of him.”
Belle Chasse retied the game on the first possession of the second half when Ramesy ran for a 13-yard score. Furey’s extra point made it 27-27 with 8:10 to go.
After a Franklinton punt, Belle Chasse drove to the 1, but fumbled. Franklinton’s Shelton Jenkins recovered at the 2.
The Demons then drove 98 yards and scored 14 seconds into the fourth period when Anders found Daniel Bryant in the end zone on a 29-yard pass to make it 34-27 after Colletti’s extra point.
Franklinton’s defense forced a punt and the offense drove 60 yards with Khaled Waliagha capping off the drive with a 1-yard run to make it 41-27 after Colletti’s extra point with 6:30 left.
The Demons sealed the game with 4:33 left when Kendarius Brumfield intercepted a pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was no good, keeping it 47-27.
Belle Chasse added a touchdown with 16 seconds left with Dickson finding Ramsey on a 5-yard pass. The two-point conversion was no good and the final score was 47-33.
Franklinton (2-3) is back in action on Friday when they host Tylertown out of Mississippi. Belle Chasse (1-2) will play again on Friday in a road game against Riverside Academy.
