Southern Miss Men’s Golf returns to action at the Old Town Club Collegiate

The Southern Miss men’s golf team returns to action when they participate in the two-day, 54-hole third annual Old Town Club Collegiate, starting Monday, and set to be held at the par 70, 6,966-yard Old Town Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The teams will play 36 continuous holes on Monday with the final round of 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday. The Golden Eagles begin their tournament off the opening tee starting Monday at 7:20 a.m. CT.

The Golden Eagles, which hold a No. 66 ranking in the latest Golfweek national men’s team rankings, will play against four teams in the Top 50 participating in the event, including No. 36 UNC-Greensboro, No. 41 SMU, No. 46 and host Wake Forest and No. 48 Virginia Tech. Four more schools are ranked in the Top 100, which encompasses No. 57 Duke, No. 70 Penn State, No. 83 Kansas State and No. 98 Kentucky.

Through the first two tournaments under coach Eddie Brescher, the Golden Eagles enjoyed four of six team rounds of par and below, while individuals racked up 18 total rounds of par or below.

Senior Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.) holds the best per round stroke average at 71.00 through the first two events, as he finished No. 2 in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate which was hosted by Louisiana Tech.

Another Golden Eagle, sophomore Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand), boasts a below-par average round of 71.67.

Along with Atkins and Rattanayanon, the Golden Eagles will feature sophomore Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontatio), freshman Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) and senior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) rounds out the lineup for the squad in the tournament.

Southern Miss is 7-12-1 against teams currently ranked in the Top 100 and are 21-12-1 overall against teams they have competed against this fall.
