The No. 4 Pearl River men’s soccer team added another game to their win total Tuesday, defeating Copiah-Lincoln 2-0.

“Co-Lin defends really well especially at their field,” head coach Drew Gallant said. “They do a great job at their place. They’ve gotten a lot better this year. I’ve been telling the guys that this isn’t the same team. They were threatening to score so much against us. We defended pretty well and the substitutions that we made were good.”

Pearl River (5-0-1 overall; 4-0 MACCC South) seemed as if they were off to another runaway victory, bagging their first goal in the 23rd minute.

Mohamed Diallo (Gulfport) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season when Jamie Chamberlain (London, England.; Dover Athletic Academy) flicked the ball up to Diallo who put it into the net to make the score 1-0.

The Wildcats were unable to find a way to increase the lead before the halftime buzzer sounded and entered the break ahead 1-0.

Out of the half, the Wildcats increased their advantage in the 55th minute when Ryley Smith (Manchester, England.; Castelbrook) blasted a ball past the CLCC keeper to go ahead 2-0.

“Ryley was much better tonight,” Gallant said. “He really played well.”

Copiah-Lincoln (3-3; 1-3) nearly broke the clean sheet in the 72nd minute, but Gavin Taylor (Gulfport) recovered and was able to break up the shot attempt.

The Wildcats were able to fend off the CLCC attacks, securing the 2-0 win

The win marked the fifth clean sheet of the season for the Wildcats.
