Sunbelt Conference selects weekly honors

Louisiana’s Montrell Johnson, Troy’s Javon Solomon and ULM’s Calum Sutherland earn Sun Belt weekly honors after leading their teams to non-conference victories.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Montrell Johnson, Louisiana
(Fr., RB – New Orleans, La.)

Ragin’ Cajuns freshman running back Montrell Johnson rushed for a career-high 84 yards and four touchdowns in Louisiana’s 49-14 victory over Ohio. The New Orleans, La., product is the first Ragin’ Cajun to rush for four touchdowns in a single game since Alonzo Harris and Elijah McGuire each had four scores against Arkansas State on Oct. 21, 2014. Johnson is one of just six players in the nation with four rushing scores in a single game this season.

Javon Solomon, Troy
(RS Fr., BAN – Tallahassee, Fla.)

Trojans redshirt freshman bandit Javon Solomon tallied nine tackles, 5.0 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks in Troy’s 21-9 win at Southern Miss. The Tallahassee, Fla., native’s tackles-for-loss and sack totals are the second-most nationally this season. As a team, the Trojan defensive unit has allowed just 27 points this season—its fewest through three games since 1997. Troy’s 16 tackles-for-loss against Southern Miss are the second-most in a game in the program’s Division I history, while its nine sacks are tied for the most in the program’s FBS history.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Calum Sutherland, ULM
(Sr., K – Keller, Texas)

Warhawks senior kicker Calum Sutherland accounted for all 12 points in ULM’s 12-7 victory over Jackson State—the Warhawks first win since Nov. 23, 2019. The Keller, Texas, product converted from 29, 45, 42 and a career-long 49 yards out to snap ULM’s 12-game losing streak. Sutherland’s 12 points tied his career high, as he became the first Warhawk kicker to make four field goals in a single game since Cole Wilson at Louisiana on Dec. 3, 2006.
