Bowling Green School suffered a heartbreaking loss, 7-6, in a game against Sylva Bay Academy on Homecoming night Friday.

Bowling Green led 6-0 at halftime.

In the fourth quarter, Sylva Bay’s Rhys Holder intercepted a pass at his team’s 44. Sylva Bay (2-2) then went 56 yards in 10 plays.

Paxton Brewer capped off the drive with an 8-yard run to tie the game. Raymond Morales’ extra point was good to give Sylva Bay Academy a 7-6 lead with 5:29 left in the fourth quarter.

Bowling Green (0-4) took the ensuing possession to Sylva Bay’s 15, but fumbled a handoff that Sylva Bay recovered with 1:45 left.

After a punt, Bowling Green got the ball back at the 50 with 26 seconds left but were unable to score.

“Too many mistakes. We’ve got to play a little cleaner football, but one thing we’ve been trying to work on is physicality and playing the entire game,” Bowling Green coach Riley Boudreaux said. “(Our players) fixed that part of it. We’ve just got to limit the mistakes now. We’ve got to take it one day at a time, one game at a time, one practice at a time and keep getting better.”

Bowling Green School and Sylva Bay Academy played a scoreless first quarter, but the Buccaneers put the game’s first points on the board in the second quarter.

Facing second-and-10 at his 25, Nathan Jenkins threw a short pass to Connor Dedon. Dedon broke into the open field and ran up the right sideline on his way to the endzone. The two-point conversation was no good, keeping it 6-0 with 7:21 left in the second quarter.

It stayed that way until the fourth quarter when Sylva Bay Academy scored the winning touchdown.

Bowling Green will be back in action on Friday with a road game against Silliman Institute.
