Mervis Johnson Jr. was called home on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2021, at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge.

He loved fishing, telling funny stories, helping others and being around his family. He is a “True Legend,” loved by many.

Mervis was united in marriage with Almae Johnson where they had a son, Tommy (LaKisha) Johnson; 13 children; 15 grandchildren; one step-daughter, Tina; Mervis was also united in marriage with Annie Lewis where they had five children, Raymond Johnson (three children and seven grandchildren), Walter Johnson (three children, five grandchildren), Carolann Johnson, (one child and one grandchild) Tina Johnson (five children, and 10 grandchildren) Robert (Katrina) Johnson (three children), and Jasmine Johnson. He also leaves to cherish his memories: his siblings, Rosella Pittman, Joann Newberry, Barbara Peiker, Paul Johnson, Janice Simmons, Lenora Hollimon, Bernadine Johnson, Shelia Johnson and Willie Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and also one special lady, Elain Crain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervis Johnson Sr. and Geraldine Barnes Johnson; four grandsons, Tommy Johnson, Roger Bickham Jr., Josh Brumfield and Chase Johnson; two great-grandsons, Machi Johnson and Raymond Johnson III; two brothers, Dwright Johnson and Tommy Johnson; and one sister, Ozella Johnson Causey.

A drive-through viewing was on Friday, Sept. 10, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.

A funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Christopher Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Second Mt. Bethel Cemetery.
