Troy’s Brooks, Anderson, UTA’s Wells named Sunbelt Volleyball Players of the Week

Troy’s Julia Brooks and Amara Anderson, and UTA’s Alli Wells earned Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week accolades after standout performances against non-conference competition this past week.

Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Julia Brooks, Troy
(So., St. Louis, Mo.)

Trojans’ sophomore middle hitter Julia Brooks led her team in all three offensive categories at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. In 13 sets played, Brooks totaled 48 kills, recorded 51.5 points and charted a hitting percentage of .419. In Troy’s first win against Alabama since 1974 and its first against an SEC team in 25 years, Brooks led all scorers with 18.5 points and 16 kills on a hitting percentage of .424, and finished the match with a service ace to secure the Trojans’ victory. She also was her team’s kill leader in matches against Southern Miss (14) and Buffalo (18).

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Alli Wells, UTA
(So., Waxahachie, Texas)

Mavs’ sophomore libero Alli Wells earned UTA Classic All-Tournament Team honors and paced her squad with 6.62 digs per set. She totaled 28 or more digs in each of UTA’s three matches on the weekend, including a season-high 30-digs in the four-set match against Tulsa. She also finished with two points off of two service aces. Wells currently ranks seventh in the nation in total digs with 134.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Amara Anderson, Troy
(Jr., Alpharetta, Ga.)

Trojans’ junior setter Amara Anderson was named the setter of the tournament at the Crimson Tide Invitational. She led the event with 147 assists over three matches, averaging 11.3 assists per set. Her 56 assists in the five-set match against Buffalo rank eighth all-time in Troy history. Over the weekend, Anderson moved into fourth-place in program history for career assists. She currently leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks 12th nationally with more than 11 assists per set.
