Goldie Vinnie Parker Byrd of Baton Rouge, resident since 2005, former longtime Bogalusa resident, passed away on Aug. 29, 2021. Born on March 5, 1932, in Talisheek, she is a 1950 graduate of Bogalusa High School.

After her Mom (Alice Davis Parker) died in 1947 and her Dad (Julian Titus Parker) in 1953, Goldie and her husband Lamar were privileged to become guardians of her 6-year-old sister, Linda Parker Scruggs (husband Mike) of Clayton, N.C., and 14-year-old brother, Lyman Julian Parker (wife Joan) of Denham Springs.

Survivors include Linda and Lyman; two grandsons, Brian Byrd (wife Emily) of Spring, Texas, and Brad Byrd (wife Sara) of Madison, Ala.; five great-grandchildren, Leah and Lauren Byrd of Spring, and Landon, Austin and Mason Byrd of Madison; two special nephews, Ryan Scruggs (wife Anna, son Malcolm) of Raleigh, N.C., and Brandon Scruggs (daughters Tegan and Riley) of Clayton; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her only child, a son, Barry L. Byrd (wife LuAnn) of Seymour, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Lamar L. Byrd in 2010; two brothers, Shelby and Kenzie Parker; and one sister, Julia Parker Wilcox.

She was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church since 2006, previously a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bogalusa for almost 50 years until it closed, and then Memorial Baptist Church in Bogalusa.

Goldie loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, family, friends, and her Bible study class at Istrouma Baptist Church. Thanks to the employees of Old Jefferson Community Care Center for her care since 2017. She will be cremated and ashes spread in the Smoky Mountains at her request. The memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Seymour, Tenn., at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021.
