Ragin’ Cajuns ranked in top 25 over 2 polls

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are ranked in the top 25 of two polls.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are ranked 23rd in the Preseason Associated Press’ Top 25 Poll.

Louisiana is also 23rd in the USA Today/AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have one former high school player from Washington Parish in Andre Jones.

Jones is a 2017 Varnado High School graduate.

Last year, the junior defensive lineman made 43 tackles, which was fifth best on the team. with 22 solos. Jones made 3.5 stops for a loss with two sacks and a pass defensed in 11 games.

Jones is just two tackles short of 100 for his career.

Last season, Louisiana went 10-1 overall and 7-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Louisiana was the co-conference champion with Coastal Carolina University. The conference title game was canceled last season because of COVID-19 issues at Coastal Carolina.

The Ragin’ Cajuns made it to the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl and defeated the University of Texas at San Antonio, 31-24. The win gave Louisiana its second-straight 10-win season.

Staying in Louisiana, LSU is ranked in both polls.

The Tigers are 13th in the USA Today/AFCA Poll and 16th in the Associated Press Poll.

The Ragin’ Cajuns begin the 2021 regular season with a road game against the University of Texas on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m.

LSU’s first game of the 2021 season will be on Saturday, Sept. 4 against UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. at 7:30 p.m.
