Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Varnado scrimmaged against Loranger on Thursday in a road contest.

“We didn’t keep score, but I thought we played sloppy and there is a lot to improve on,” Varnado coach Adam Brumfield said. “We graduated a huge class last year so our numbers are down. We only have three seniors and two were out due to quarantine, but it got a few younger kids some experience. When your numbers are low, you have to be in good shape and we aren’t where we need to be as far as that aspect either. We have a lot of improving to do before week one. It’s going to take commitment and dedication to get where we need to be.”

Varnado plays in the first game of the Loranger Jamboree on Friday against Central Private at 5:30 p.m.

Brumfield said the jamboree is kind of the last chance to iron things out before the first week.

“Hopefully we keep improving and just get better from it,” Brumfield said. “That’s all I want to do. Make strides forward.”
