Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home.

Bessie McMahon, 90, of Baton Rouge, passed away on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at her residence.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, Archie P. and Lena B. Brady; her husband, Calvin McMahon Sr.; daughter, Linda M. McMahon; brothers, Johnny Brady and Murrell Brady; and sisters, Mildred Brady Holloway, Janet Brady Holloway and Mary A. Brady.

Bessie was born on May 12, 1931, in Lecompte, to the late Archie Brady and Lena Ballard Brady. She later married Calvin McMahon Sr., of DeRidder, and relocated to San Diego, Calif., while he was serving in the U.S. Navy.

They later returned to Louisiana to start a family. Bessie proudly raised seven children. She devoted all her time and efforts to her family, as a housewife and mother, providing inspiration to those who knew her.

She was a woman of faith, the anchor for the McMahon family. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, in Bogalusa, where she lived for 52 years. She attended Love Missionary Baptist Church the last five years of her time in Bogalusa, before moving to Baton Rouge in 2012.

Bessie enjoyed gardening, cooking and quilting. She lovingly made her children and grandchildren hand-stitched quilts over the course of many years. And every Christmas, she would pour endless hours of love into making homemade fudge to mail to every child and their families.

Those left to cherish her memory include six children, Jim McMahon (Gwen) of Slidell, Calvin McMahon Jr. (Audrey) of Franklinton, Danny McMahon (Mona) of Marietta, Ga., Kathy McMahon Wright (Bobby) of Perry, Ga., Mark McMahon (Ara) of Hammond, and Brenda McMahon Fife of Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers honored to serve were Jim McMahon, Danny McMahon, Calvin E. McMahon, Hunter Fife, Michael Miley and Bobby Wright.
