Following the 12th practice of fall camp for Southern Miss, first-year coach Will Hall praised a group of young wide receivers as they battle for playing time heading into the season.

One of the positions battling for playing time comes from behind Jason Brownlee at one of the outside spots. Hall mentioned three players that they are looking to add depth there.

“Well you have Brad Dennis who is a tough guy and represents everything that we do in this program from Florence High School,” said Hall. “Brad does everything right and brings a lot to the table. He has been really good in the kicking game for us.

“And then we have two young guys, Brandon Hayes (of Oak Grove High School) and Richard Mays (Ridgeland High School) that are really talented and continue to make plays. We have a lot of depth there and I am really pleased overall.”

Another receiver that Hall said had a bright future in the program is freshman Jeremiah Robinson from Petal.

“Jeremiah is a great young man from a great family and played for an unbelievable high school coach in Marcus Boyles – one of the all-time greats in Mississippi history,” said Hall. “He really is going to be an explosive player. He is physical and is going to be an over 200 lbs., guy after he grows into being a man. Jeremiah has great speed and leaping ability so he is going to be a guy that can really contribute at receiver along with special teams, maybe this year, but if not, for sure in the future is going to be an integral part of this program.”

The Golden Eagles return to the practice field on Friday as they continue to move towards their season opener Saturday, Sept. 4, at South Alabama.
