Jolie and Cicily Hidalgo combined for 23 kills as Team Gold won in straight sets, 25-11, 25-22, 25-16, in Southeastern Louisiana University’s annual Green and Gold volleyball match Thursday at the University Center.

Gold scored the first nine points of the scrimmage behind the serving of junior setter Ariana Hebert. Green snapped the string on a kill by freshman outside hitter Hannah Brewer, but it did little to slow the Gold momentum.

Despite a much tighter second set, Green never led at any point in the match. Gold fought off a charge midway through the final set before scoring nine of the final 11 points to seal the win.

A junior from Opelousas, Louisiana, Jolie Hidalgo led all players with 14 kills. She was also Gold’s leading attacker in each set, picking up five, six and three kills respectively, and had a hand in a match-high four blocks.

Cicily Hidalgo, a freshman outside hitter, tallied nine kills and served up a pair of aces. The 2019 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year also contributed seven digs.

Junior middle blocker Crispin Adams had the most efficient night offensively. The preseason All-Conference selection recorded eight kills on just 14 attempts, compiling a .500 attack percentage.

Hebert turned in a double-double, handing out 32 assists and also contributing 11 digs to Gold’s defensive efforts. Sophomore libero Calli Collins posted a match-high 20 digs.

For Green, Brewer and junior outside hitter Addie Vidrine contributed nine kills apiece while freshman setter Gracie Duplechein dished out 27 assists. Brewer also led the team with 15 digs.

Southeastern will travel to Monroe, Louisiana for a 3 p.m. exhibition match Saturday at ULM before opening the 2021 season, Aug. 27, against Gonzaga at the StarkVegas Classic in Starkville, Mississippi.
