State reports 2,901 current COVID-19 hospitalizations

The Louisiana Department of Health reported there are more than 2,900 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state, according to information released during its update Thursday at noon.

The LDH reported that there were 2,901 patients in hospitals, and 386 of those were on ventilators. In Wednesday’s report, there were 2,895 hospitalizations and 373 on ventilators.

Also Thursday, the LDH reported 5,268 new cases of COVID, bringing the total cases reported since the start of the pandemic to 607,228. There were 5,408 cases reported Wednesday.

The LDH reported 54 new deaths, bringing the overall total to 11,462 deaths. The state reported 55 deaths in Wednesday’s update.

LDH officials also reported that non-fully-vaccinated residents made up 90 percent of the cases reported from July 29 through Aug. 4, and 83 percent of the deaths in that same time period. In addition, 91 percent of current COVID hospitalizations are patients who are not fully vaccinated, according to the LDH.

Since the start of the pandemic, Washington Parish has reported 5,998 cases and 147 deaths.
