The Southern Miss football team returned to the Joe P. Park Practice Facility Monday morning for its second-straight day of practices in shoulder pads.

The Golden Eagles have enjoyed four days of fall camp in all and first-year coach Will Hall continues to see improvement in his squad, but wants that standard to stay consistent with his team each practice day.

“We have to continue to get tougher and we were tougher today,” said Hall. “We battled through the elements more and we had a few guys that didn’t, but like I said, toughness is a learned skill and we wanted to continue to train these young men to do that. We saw some physical hits out there today.”

The Golden Eagles have now participated twice in practices with pads and now start getting into the rhythm of having some level of pads on each day during their practice sessions. They will not go into full pads until practice six, which is set to take place on Thursday.

“We are in the grind part of camp now, but we have had really good energy,” said Hall. “Our kids enjoy being here. Our coaches do a great job of setting the standard. The coaches lead by example. They are energetic as they coach the good as well as the bad and our kids now that we love them and care about them. They (the players) understand that we have to get tougher, because nothing great in life comes easy.”

Southern Miss returns to the practice field on Tuesday, before taking their first day off of camp on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles will open their 105th season, Saturday, Sept. 4, at South Alabama.
