Pine pitcher Chase Cooper is the District 9-2A Most Valuable Player and Raiders coach Blake Dillon is the league’s Coach of the Year.

This season, Cooper went 6-2 with a 2.58 earned run average and a 1.10 WHIP (walks + hits per innings pitched). Cooper struck out 67 and walked just six over 46 innings in 11 games with 10 starts.

At the plate, Cooper hit .340 with a .535 on base percentage and .426 slugging. He drove in nine runs, scored 21 runs and doubled four times.

Dillon guided his team to the district title with a 7-0 record in league play. The Raiders reached the playoffs, as the No. 17 seed. Pine reached the regional round before being defeated by top-seeded and state runner up Doyle in two games in a best-of-three, 6-0 and 10-0.

Eight more Raiders made the top team, including pitcher Brandon Sprehe, catcher Cayden Schloegel, infielders Bryson Thomas and Clint Miley, outfielders Coby Sheridan and Colby Comeaux, utility Ethan Ryals and John Eric Self.

This season, Sprehe went 3-1 with a 3.87 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. Sprehe stuck out 35 and walked 12 in 21-2/3 innings over his seven games and five starts.

At the plate, he hit .259 with a .369 on base percentage and a .352 slugging percentage. Sprehe tallied 14 RBIs, with five doubles and 13 runs scored.

Schlogel posted a .342 on base percentage with a double, six runs batted in and three runs scored.

Thomas batted .308 with a .478 on base percentage and .404 slugging. Thomas posted 11 RBIs, 18 runs scored and five doubles.

Miley hit .298, reached base at a .406 clip and slugged .456. He drove in 11 runs, scored 22 runs, doubled five times and tripled twice.

Sheridan put up a .333 average with a .410 on base percentage and .424 slugging. Miley tallied 12 RBIs, six doubles and 19 runs scored.

On the mound, Sheridan posted a 4-2 record with an ERA of just 0.50 and a 0.60 WHIP. Sheridan tallied 29 strikeouts and five walks over 28 innings in his eight games with four of them being starts.

Comeaux batted .270 with an on base percentage of .378. He drove in 12 runs, doubled once and scored 12 runs.

Ryals had a .377 on base percentage with two doubles, a triple, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Self posted a .283 batting average with a .391 on base percentage and .396 slugging. Self drove in 18 runs with four doubles, a triple and 12 runs scored.

Besides the Pine, Varnado had three players make the top team.

Pitcher Jamari Lewis, outfielder Quovadis Bickham and utility Brandon Jefferson are all first-team all-district players.

One Varnado player made second-team all-district.

Deangelo Bickham is a second-team all-district player for the Wildcats.

The rest of the first team includes Kentwood pitcher Eric Earl, Kentwood’s Jeremia Mcknight and Independence’s Marvin Jones at infield and Kentwood’s Jalen Smith and Independence’s Jordan Robinson at utility.

Moving to the second team, the pitchers are Independence teammates Logan Lavine and Makia Bean and Amite teammates Adrian Davis and Liam Adamson.

Kentwood’s Odel Zanders is the catcher.

Besides Bickham, the infielders are Amite’s Earl Jackson, Independence’s Brent Miller and Kentwood’s Lemichael Callahan.

The outfield includes Amite teammates Jaborius Williams and Brennan Harrol and Independence’s Robert Pingno.

At utility are Amite’s Christian Smith, Independence’s David Johnson and Gary Zanders and Kentwood’s Tyler Hookfin and Sherman Cooper.
