Charles Anthony Forbes Sr., 61, of Bogalusa, departed this life at St. Tammany Parish Hospital on July 29, 2021.

Charles was one of 14 siblings born July 10, 1960, in Bogalusa, to Celia Bell Brown Forbes and the late Arnold Lee Forbes Sr. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1979 and joined the U. S. Army. Charles worked numerous jobs after the military up until his retirement from Sears in Bogalusa.

He leaves to cherish his memories and love: his wife of 38 years, Sandra McCray Forbes; one daughter, La’Keshia Forbes; a special daughter, Courtney Matthews of Bogalusa; a son he raised, Brandon Forbes of Bogalusa; his mother, Celia Bell Forbes of Bogalusa; grandchildren, Chas Smith, T’naj Forbes, Tajdryn Forbes, Damarri James and an unborn baby girl of Bogalusa, Xiren James of Forney, Texas, and Chasity Forbes of Slidell; great-grandson, Amier Forbes of Bogalusa; sisters, Patricia Gibson, Sandra Cooley, Pamela Forbes, Lenelva (Byron) Tyner, Carol Varnado, Martha Forbes and Shawanda (Brian) Mingo of Bogalusa; brothers, Oliver (Cynthia) Forbes of Pearland, Texas, John Forbes and Jeffrey Forbes of Bogalusa; aunt, Corrine Watson of Milwaukee, Wis.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. Willie (Beris) McCray Sr. of Bogalusa; sisters-in-law, Shirley Forbes of Houston, Texas, and Sharmika (Justin) Godbolt of Bogalusa; brothers-in-law:, Kenneth (Kimberly) McCray Sr. of Arlington, Texas, Darrick McCray of Bogalusa, and Roderick (Kendrell) McCray of Abita Springs; special brother, Donald (Patricia) Lewis of Bogalusa; special best friend, Toriana Peters of Bogalusa; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles “Hubba” Forbes Jr.; father, Arnold Lee Forbes Sr.; brothers, Jimmy Lee “Thigh” Forbes and Arnold Lee Forbes Jr.; sister, Ora Lee Gatlin Bell; paternal grandparents, Oliver and Martha Forbes; maternal grandparents, Jim and Isabell Brown; seven uncles and seven aunts; and brothers-in-law, Larry Gatlin, Daniel Gibson, Milton Bell, Donald Ray Varnado and Willie McCray Jr.

The drive-through viewing will be Friday, Aug. 6, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Christopher Matthews officiating.

Interment will be at the Bogalusa Cemetery.
