On Tuesday, detectives with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force were working in the Richardson area on the western side of the parish when they encountered Tyriun Okeef Carter, 45, a resident of Kentwood, according to WPSO Chief Criminal Deputy Mike Haley.

Carter was identified as a fugitive from Tangipahoa Parish who was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.

Carter was arrested and transported to the Washington Parish Jail, where he will remain until transported to Tangipahoa Parish to face charges there.

“State law is specific,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “Convicted sex offenders must register and must meet specific reporting requirements. When they fail to do so, a warrant is issued for their arrest. We are always glad to assist another jurisdiction and arrest their fugitive if located in Washington Parish.”
