Keybian “Fat Cat” Lewis was called home by the angel of the Lord on Sunday, June 13, 2021. He was born on Sept. 10, 1976, to Gwendolyn Payne and Elgrie Ray Lewis in Bogalusa.

Keybian was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. A.S. Nelson. He was a member of the youth choir and the Mt. Zion Drill Team.

Keybian was a graduate of the Varnado High School class of 1994. He also attended Sidney N. Collier Technical College in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Keybian was known as a skilled mechanic. In addition to his mechanical skills, he was versatile in his ability to complete many tasks using his hands, such as carpentry and landscaping. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again just to see how it operated.

“Jerrod,” or “Fat Cat,” as his family and friends affectionately referred to him, was a devoted father and grandfather who would give his last just to see those grandkids smile. Keybian lit up any room with that big smile and infectious laugh. He definitely lived life on his terms, but he did so selflessly. “Fat Cat” had a special relationship with everyone he encountered with his genuine persona and heart of gold.

Keybian leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Gwendolyn Payne and Elgrie “Loletia” Lewis of Angie; grandparents, Helen and Lonnie Lewis of Angie; four daughters, Desirae Craft of Hammond, Shuntae Craft and Nikara Taylor of Bogalusa, and Keybianna “KeKe” (Samad) Lewis-Muhammad of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Ti’Anna Collier of Hammond, and J’Ceyon Jones and Zoey Hughes of Bogalusa; four sisters, LaToya Jefferson and Ebony Mingo of Baton Rouge, Danielle Mingo of Houston, Texas, and Dominique Mingo of Angie; one brother, Elgrie Kendall Payne of Angie; three aunts, Carolyn Devonnie Banks of Missouri City, Texas, and Regina Payne and Bertha Payne of Bogalusa; two uncles, Joe (Alva) Lewis Sr. and Keith Payne of Bogalusa; four nieces, LaToy Jefferson of Baton Rouge, Shandall Payne and Ava McCaskill of Angie, and Candace Corley of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three nephews, Ricky Jefferson and Kendall Payne of Baton Rouge, and Tyrik Payne of Slidell.

Keybian was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Veda Payne, Willie Obie Payne, Harriet Owens and Curtis Owens; grandmother, Gloria Dell Payne; aunts, Janice Lewis and Zelda Galloway; uncle, Brian Payne; and special cousin, Devonda Lewis.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 25, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Cook-Richmond & Sons Funeral Home, located at 638 N. Columbia St. in Bogalusa.

The service will be at Kingdom of God Church (Apostle Kendon Grant Sr.), located at 814 Union Ave. in Bogalusa, on Saturday, June 26, at 1 p.m.
