BATON ROUGE – Family and friends of Brookshire “Brooks” McVean plan to honor his memory through a Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF) Foundation of Champions Endowed Scholarship. The endowed scholarship will benefit LSU student-athletes who walk-on to the LSU football team and earn a full scholarship.

Brooks, a Brenham, Texas eighth grader, passed away on Feb. 2, 2021. He is the late son of Jeff (LSU ’94) and Amanda McVean, and the younger brother of Carter, who is an incoming freshman at LSU.

Brooks had a passion for LSU, and he loved cheering on the Tigers during their 2019 run for the National Championship. When healthy, Brooks was a member of the Brenham Junior High Cub Football Team.

“Brooks would be the first to admit he wasn’t the star player, but he believed in hard work, putting the team before the individual, and cheering on others to reach their highest potential. This scholarship epitomizes everything he found important in life – both on and off the field,” shared Brooks’s mother, Amanda McVean.

The first portion of the scholarship is funded thanks to the generosity of Brooks’s family and friends including Dr. Gerald Foret, Sr. and Gayle Foret, Dr. Gerald Foret, Jr. and Jody Foret, Dr. Christopher Foret and Julie Foret, and Tommy Juneau. Together the group is donating $50,000 in Brooks’s name. Other friends and the public are invited to honor him by donating through TAF and helping to reach the $100,000 endowed scholarship’s goal.

“Honoring Brooks and the memory of his love for LSU football is important to our family and community. Brooks loved to smile and almost nothing made him smile more than football. We are looking forward to sharing his story through scholarships to LSU football walk-ons for years to come,” shared Brooks’s uncle, Dr. Christopher Foret.

Donations to the Brookshire Pipes (Brooks) McVean Memorial Endowed Scholarship can be made at lsutaf.events/Brooks or by calling the TAF office at (225) 578-4823.
