The first on site meeting for the Our Veterans Memorial Park committee with the fl+WB Architects recently took place at the location site — 54042 Dollar Road in Franklinton.

As plans begin to take shape, committee members anticipate a dignified atmosphere of natural beauty that will allow visitors to enjoy the beautiful grounds, peace for quite meditation, a place of remembrance and respect for veterans, their loved ones, and visitors.

The committee members are planning this special location for the involvement of veterans of all ages to ensure a beautiful space that will serve the needs of many different types of veteran events — including memorial ceremonies, holiday celebrations, military weddings, fundraisers, and much more.

Phase I of the project will include the fundraising, preparation, and construction of the main plaza. The main plaza and walkways will be composed of engraved bricks purchased by friends, relatives, and loyal community members. The American flag, State of Louisiana flag, POW MIA flag, monuments, and flags depicting each branch of the military will be displayed.

Presently, the committee is trying to spread the word and seek donations for the Park. Organizers are hoping for grants to assist with the funding, but there is no certainty of that at this time. Final details of the brick sales will be announced at a future date.

Donations should be submitted to P.O. Box 326 Franklinton, LA 70438. Checks are to be made payable to Our Veterans Memorial Park.
