Washington Parish Republican Women
The Washington Parish Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Maria’s Restaurant on Austin Street. The business meeting will begin at noon. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin will be the guest speaker. Social distancing requirements will continue.

YMCA courses
The Bogalusa YMCA will be offering the WSI course on Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13. This is about how to teach swimming lessons and is open to ages 16 and up. There will also be a stroke clinic to be held Saturday, June 19, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., open to ages 7 to 17. Clinics are $30. For more information, call the Bogalusa YMCA at 985-732-3741.

Remembering COVID-19 victims
A special event will be held to remember those who lost their lives to COVID-19. The event will be Monday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the veterans’ memorial and flag pole in Franklinton. All families can bring a photo of their loved one. There will also be a special recognition of all first responders and health care workers. The Franklinton Social Planning Committee is hosting this event.

Bogalusa City Schools kids’ summer camp
The Bogalusa City Schools kids’ summer camp will be held June 7-30 at Byrd Avenue Primary School, Central Elementary School and Bogalusa High School. This camp is for grades pre-K through 12th. “Believe” performing arts camp
The “Believe” five-day performing arts camp will be returning to Bogalusa this summer. The camp includes singing, dancing and acting, taught by internationally experienced professionals from Los Angeles and New York City. The cost is $120 per student, and limited spaces are available. Register online at www.believecamp.com. This camp is open to third-grade through 12th-grade students. It will be held at Bogalusa High School on Monday, July 5, through Friday, July 9, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

American Legion bingo
Bingo is back at the American Legion building every Thursday. Masks are not required. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Washington Parish alert system
Stay alert by enrolling in the Washington Parish Emergency Notification System. This alert system provides rapid notification of emergencies, critical events and urgent situations. Fourth of July parade planned
There will be a Fourth of July parade held this year. More information will be released soon.

Public wi-fi locations
The Washington Parish Library System recently acquired state funding to boost their existing public wi-fi in order to further assist the students of Washington Parish who must do class work virtually. The signal at each branch has been strengthened considerably and usage is unlimited by any number of people. Each branch also has Hot Spots to check out to patrons who have limited access to internet at home or live in rural areas with little internet access. Bogalusa Help Center
Bogalusa Help Center, the local food bank, is now a drive-through operation located at 350 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It is open from 8 a.m. until noon every Wednesday (except the fifth Wednesday of a month), providing food to those in need in our community. Since partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank/USDA, and with generous donations from our community, BHC now distributes 35 to 40 pounds of food to each client each month, serving over 400 families each month. These distributions include canned goods, meat, dry beans, peanut butter, fresh fruit and vegetables, and more. New clients can apply each week.
