Varnado’s Zamoriyon Washington won the 100 meters and qualified for state in two events, while teammate Quovadis Bickham made it in one event at the Region 3-2A Meet that was held on April 27 at Ponchatoula.

Washington won the 100 in 11.22 seconds, winning a close race with Pope John Paul II’s Warren Campagna, who was second at 11.24.

Washington was second in the 200 after clocking a 22.96. Kentwood’s Jermaine Brown won the event in 22.52.

Bickham is headed to state in the triple jump after he posted a distance of 40 feet, 4.5 inches. Kentwood’s Ker’michael Carter won at 41-11.

The meet was a qualifier. The top three finishers in each event qualified for the state meet. The 2A state meet takes place today at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of LSU.

Several more athletes from Washington Parish competed in the meet, as Pine and Varnado were the local schools in the event.

Pine teammates Braden Johnson and Cameron Brown were fourth and seventh in the discus with throws of 110-10.5 and 97-8. Northlake Christian School’s Kyron Ross won at 124-1.5.

Bickham was fourth in the high jump with Isidore Newman teammates Gavin Zura and Arch Manning at 5-6. The tiebreaker is fewest misses. Bickham and Zura had the same number of misses, so they tied for fourth and Manning was sixth. St. Helena College and Career Academy’s Deshon Singleton won at 5-10.
