James Mingo was born on Oct. 1, 1941, to the late Leone Mingo and Mary Lee Wilson Mingo. James departed this life at the age of 79 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Franklinton, at 8:30 a.m.

James will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a person who brought laughter and fun wherever he went. He had a nickname of “Crow” and he also had this saying that all should remember and will miss: “Join the friendly skies and come fly with The Crow. If you can’t fly with The Crow, stay on the ground.”

James leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Stanley Mingo of Houston, Texas; one brother, Samuel Mingo of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters, Johnnie Ruth Jenkins and Ida Sibley Bickham of Franklinton, and Christine Vernon of Oakland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leone and Mary Lee Wilson Mingo; four brothers, Larry Mingo, Jimmy Mingo, Charles Ray Mingo and Terry Bickham; and two sisters, Paulette Mingo and Janet Kelly.

A drive-through viewing will be Wednesday, May 5, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton.

The funeral service will be Thursday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerome Warren officiating. Interment will be at Greater Hayes Cemetery.
